Pantone Color of the Year 2025
Every year since 1999, the Pantone Color Institute has forecasted “Color of the Year” to capture the overall mood of a variety of human influences and project them into an exact shade of color. The influences that go into this forecast come from wide range of fields like all areas of art and design as well as travel destinations, lifestyles, technology and socio-economic conditions. The effort is to showcase the global cultural experiences and express it in the form of color. The yearly forecast undeniably sparks conversations around color in the design and art world as well as amongst color enthusiasts. On Dec 5th 2024, Pantone announced its Color of the Year 2025 - Mocha Mousse - a color signifying luxury and comfort.
“For Pantone Color of the Year 2025, we look to a mellow brown hue whose inherent richness and sensorial and comforting warmth extends further into our desire for comfort, and the indulgence of simple pleasures that we can gift and share with others.”
Leatrice Eiseman Executive Director Pantone Color Institute
The Color of the Year reveals the ongoing trend of the design and color world towards embracing an earthy organic palette with a more refined and sophisticated approach. We are seeing an industry wide shift from the ubiquitous greys to the more warmer color tones.
Will this work for my design style?
Move over greys - its time for Fifty Shades of Brown ;) While greys have dominated as the perfect neutral in the past decade, the revival of warmer tones in recent times sets the stage for this great neutral. Deep browns are naturally calming and provide a great backdrop for a variety of design styles from modern contemporary to rustic farmhouse and everything in between. By choosing the right forms & elements we can create spaces that are visually compelling.
Looking for some inspiration for a Chocolatey addition?
While you may not be ready to paint your entire space a deep shade of brown(if you are, go for it!), there are many ways to incorporate this delectable color in your space. Deep browns add warmth to any space and you can achieve that from adding smaller decorative elements like poufs, pillows, lamps to larger pieces of furniture. A rug is a great way to pull all the elements of design for a cohesive look. So, if you are looking to experiment with this new color there are so many great ways to do that for any given style.
